Following a decision by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) to further delay the mandatory installation of lead free plumbing products, Building and Energy has published an update to Industry Bulletin 171 for the WA plumbing industry.
The ABCB decision allows existing stocks of WaterMark certified copper alloy products to be installed until 30 April 2028. This is a two-year extension.
Manufacturers must only produce products that conform to the new Lead Free WaterMark, when required under the National Construction Code, from 1 May 2026.
See Industry Bulletin 171 – Extended transition to lead free plumbing products in WA.
The ABCB announcement is in their January CEO Update.
