National Backflow Prevention Day on 16 August recognised the extremely important but generally unnoticed role backflow prevention plays in protecting public health.

Backflow prevention devices installed by licensed plumbers help stop contaminated water from flowing back into our drinking water. Contaminated water is a serious health risk because it carries water-borne diseases and harmful substances.

Rather than take clean safe drinking water for granted, we should celebrate the work of plumbers, trainers, industry regulators and product manufacturers who safeguard it.
