When Radio 6PR's Chrissy Morrissy needed to interview an expert about plumbing and lead-contaminated drinking water, she tracked down our CEO, Murray Thomas.
Her quest for information in her program on Thursday 15 January was prompted by news about high levels of lead in water at Perth Children's Hospital.
This isn't the first time the hospital has been in the news because of a problem with lead. A long-running saga relating to lead in the hospital's drinking water contributed to a lengthy delay in its official opening, which eventually occurred in May 2018.
Responding to concerned questioning by Chrissy Morrissy, Murray explained that plumbing products that come into contact with drinking water must be WaterMark certified. He also discussed the new Lead Free WaterMark certification, which will take the safety of drinking water to a new level.
Murray also touched on the legal contradiction that makes it illegal for plumbers to install non-WaterMark products (when WaterMark certification is required) but perfectly legal for suppliers to sell them to the public.
Well done Murray. It's an important topic every member of The Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association of WA can educate consumers about, whenever the opportunity arises.
