The Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association of WA wishes to express appreciation to Saj Abdoolakhan for his dedication and service to our industry during his years at the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS).

On Wednesday 14 May, the WA Government announced that Mr Abdoolakhan will be the new Small Business Commissioner and CEO of the Small Business Development Corporation. He will start in these roles on Monday 19 May.

From January 2019 to January 2024, in addition to being Building Commissioner and Director of Energy Safety, Mr Abdoolakhan was Executive Director of the DEMIRS Building and Energy group, which is responsible for regulating the building, plumbing, electricity and gas industries.

In January 2024, he became DEMIRS' Deputy Director General - Building, Energy Safety and Service Delivery.

Mr Abdoolakhan has always been willing to engage constructively with The Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association of WA when we have industry matters to discuss. We sincerely thank him and wish him every success in his new roles.
