Building and Energy is reviewing the regulations for fire systems installers in WA and is inviting comments via an online survey.
The survey is open until 4 August 2025 and may take about 20 minutes to complete.
Building and Energy wants to hear from people with experience in constructing, installing, testing or maintaining certain types of fire systems in Class 2 to 9 buildings (apartments, public buildings, hotels and commercial and industrial buildings).
The relevant fire systems include:
- Fire-fighting water services (fire sprinkler, hydrant and hose reels, and pumps and tanks for those systems)
- Passive fire construction and/or installation (construction or installation of fire rated doors, walls, ceilings, firestopping of all service and other penetrations through walls, floors and ceilings)
- Fire detection and alarm systems with a fire indicator panel
- Emergency lighting and illuminated emergency exit signs
Building and Energy will use the responses and other information to help decide if new regulations are required.
Respondents will be able to provide further information about instances of non-compliance and have the option to remain anonymous.
The survey is available at consultation.dmirs.wa.gov.au.
More information about the fire systems review is available in the Review Paper.
