A Waterwise retrofit project in Victoria Park shows what our Waterwise-endorsed members and Water Corporation can achieve together.

The 30-plus year's old partnership between The Master Plumbers Association of WA and Water Corporation is based on shared goals of improving water efficiency, raising community awareness and ensuring high‑quality plumbing work is delivered by licensed professionals.

As part of their strategic Waterwise flow reduction program, Water Corporation identifies buildings with opportunities to save large volumes of water by repairing leaks and replacing old fittings.

The apartment complex at 80 King George Street, Victoria Park was an ideal candidate for a refit. This is an older building with 42 apartments, each with a sink, toilet, basin and shower. A small number of units also have washing machines, with most residents using a shared laundry.

Installing modern flow‑control devices typically saves 25–50 kilolitres per household each year and retrofitting a building like 80 King George Street does this across multiple dwellings at once.

Another benefit is lower ongoing maintenance costs for residents.

Water Corporation always works exclusively with Waterwise endorsed plumbers. For the installation at 80 King George Street they selected our member, My Plumber WA.

While onsite, the professionals from My Plumber WA and Water Corporation staff worked hard to complete the large-scale retrofit on time, with minimal disruption to residents.

Water Corporation estimates this project will exceed the 20 per cent water savings achieved on the retrofit project of more than 1,000 Department of Housing and Works’ homes.

The Waterwise endorsement for plumbers and projects such as 80 King George Street demonstrate the important role licensed plumbers play in supporting broader sustainability outcomes.

They also highlight the value of choosing Waterwise-endorsed members of The Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association of WA, who are well-placed to deliver practical water-saving improvements in customers' homes.
