Annual increases to award and minimum wages under both the national and WA industrial relations systems apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2023. The new hourly rates for both systems are now available.
In WA, the national system only covers private sector employers that are constitutional corporations - for example, Pty Ltd companies, incorporated partnerships and incorporated trusts - and their employees. The state system covers businesses such as sole traders and unincorporated partnerships.
For information about the national increase, see the news item we published in June. The state minimum wage and all WA award rates of pay have increased by 5.3 per cent, as announced by the WA Industrial Relations Commission on 16 June 2023.
