Free workshop for members - understanding the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award

Members with staff employed under the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award 2020 should attend our free employment relations workshop on Thursday 24 July.

The workshop will cover 'must know' topics including the interaction between awards and contracts of employment, the detailed operation of the plumbing award and recent changes to employment law.

In this two-hour session, you can expect to learn how to:

  • Identify when a modern award covers and applies to employees
  • Recognise how awards interact with the contract of employment
  • Identify the usual structure of awards and the basic interpretation rules
  • Use the Plumbing and Fire Sprinkler’s Award 2020 to recognise the operation of the following:
    • Types of work covered by plumbing and fire sprinkler fitting services
    • Employer and employee types covered (including daily and weekly hire), casual employees and recent changes under the Fair Work Act 2009
    • Individual flexibility arrangements
    • Ordinary hours of work, work cycles and methods of arranging ordinary hours and rostered days off and overtime
    • Penalty rates
    • Paid and unpaid breaks
    • Allowances, including the standard rate of pay, all-purpose and wage-related allowances
    • Travel time and inclement weather allowances
    • Rules around annual leave and public holidays
    • Consultation about major changes to rosters or hours of work
    • Termination of employment and redundancy pay

Although the workshop is free for members, prior registration no later than Friday 18 July is essential. Places are limited.
