Fines for “irresponsible” plumber (Stephen William Jacobs (TL2525))
Beckenhamlicensed plumbing tradesperson Stephen William Jacobs(TL2525) has been ordered by the State Administrative Tribunal to pay fines of $800 and costs of $400 as a result of disciplinary action initiated by the Plumbers Licensing Board (PLB).
In a settlement finalised on 5 March 2015, Mr Jacobs admitted to carrying out plumbing work at a Hillarys property between February and March 2013 without being under the general direction and control of a licensed plumbing contractor, which is a disciplinary matter under the Plumbers Licensing and Plumbing Standards Regulations 2000.
During mediation, Mr Jacobs said he was retired and no longer working in the plumbing industry. He was invited by the PLB to relinquish his licence and has undertaken to do so at the end of the financial year.
“For Mr Jacobs to carry out plumbing work outside the control and supervision of a licensed plumbing contractor is irresponsible,” said PLB Chairperson Howard Croxon OAM.
“If plumbing work is done incorrectly it can result in the failure of plumbing equipment or systems, which can compromise public health and safety and result in property damage, disease, injury or even death.
“It is for this reason that all plumbing work carried out in Western Australia must be done by or under the supervision of a person who holds the appropriate licence.
“We expect to be able to trust our licensed plumbers to do the right thing and the Plumbers Licensing Board, through the Building Commission, will continue to hold to account and name those who put consumer interests and the reputation of the plumbing industry at risk.”
