Advertising and your licence

MPGA CEO Blog

Did you know it is a requirement under WA plumbing regulations for plumbing contractors to display their licence number in all advertising?

Failing to do so can result in a fine of up to $2000 under Regulation 25 of the Plumbers Licensing and Plumbing Standards Regulations 2000.

While many plumbing contractors may be aware of this requirement, it is the notion of what constitutes “advertising” that may lead to problems.

The obvious areas include newspaper, radio and television promotion. But your website, business cards and business letterhead are also forms of advertising.

So is signage on vehicles and business premises, promotional information run on other websites and directory listings such as the Yellow Pages.

In fact, pretty much anywhere you use your logo and/or business name for promotional purposes can be regarded as advertising – and therefore your licence number must be included.

The exceptions are where you are simply identifying items that belong to you, such as tools, that cannot be viewed as advertising/promotional materials.
