Community support for draft plan encouraging
| Our draft plan to adapt to a drying climate and become
more climate resilient has a high level of community support,
according to recent market
research.The draft plan, Water
Forever: Directions for Our Water Future outlines
how the Water Corporation will work with the community
and business to become more climate resilient. It aims
to reduce water use by 15%, increase water recycling in
the metropolitan area to 30% and develop up to 100 gigalitres
of new water sources by 2030. |

92% of those surveyed are in favour of the draft plan
and there is a high level of confidence in the plan’s success.
Increasing water recycling, particularly for industrial purposes,
was seen as most important. While there were no strong objections
to any part of the plan, environmental issues, increased use of
groundwater and water pricing were noted as areas of concern for
some Perth residents.
We also received a number of written submissions on the draft
plan during the public comment period which closed in May 2009.
Submissions were received from environmental, industry and community
groups, government agencies, businesses and individual members
of the community.
The comments were generally supportive of the measures outlined
in the draft plan and highlighted ways the community and stakeholders
could work with the Water Corporation to achieve shared goals.
Some of the suggestions raised regarding specific projects and
initiatives will be addressed in the final plan.
Thank you to every one who commented on the draft plan. To

The final plan, Water Forever: Towards Climate Resilience,
is due to be released in October 2009. For more information

Forever website. |
